Spickman – Nisbett Cemetery Restoration Project
May 25, 2021Choosing the type of fonts can really set the tone of a memorial. Most inscriptions are usually set in a bold serif font such
as Times New Roman, Goudy Old Style or Bookman Demi with an average height 40-50mm for the names and around
20mm (minimum of 15mm) for the body text. These fonts are easy to read and restore. For very small fonts we suggest
a san-serif font such as Arial for clear legible text. The smaller the text the higher the risk of losing the centres of letters
such as ‘e’ and ‘a’ for this reason we tend to limit font size to 10-15mm depending on font style. We have many different
types of fonts to choose from to help you create the perfect memorial.
Aside from the type of font there are also the different types of inscriptions each style set out below.
Cut in is simply the natural colour of the stone underneath. Gold is 24kt Gold leaf pressed into the engraving.
Silver and White are as shows and Raised is when the area around the lettering is engraved and the letters are the polished stone uncut.
We love adding a personal touch to the artwork, a loved ones favourite flower in their favourite colour, cars, tractors, boats, fishing pieces, religious motifs and much more. We have so many options to chose from just let us know what you have in mind and we will do our best to find it for you.
For custom art pieces we would need to convert them to line art first – with today’s technology we can generally accomplish this with monochromatic images almost instantaneously. Some pieces with extensive details or blended colours are done by hand, the process can be extremely time consuming, these are priced according to the time required and complexity of the image and we will advise you if it’s possible for us to complete.
